Family Update!

As most of you know, baby Kellan Leo Brown was born on June 15, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. He weighed 9lbs. 2oz. and was 21in. long. Same length as Koben and just one ounce under! This labor was completely different than the first. I went in the night before at 8 pm for them to give me pills to thin out my cervix. I was already having mild contractions when I went in, but was still dialated at a 1. The next day my contractions starting coming on very strong, stronger than I ever felt with Koben and they were extremely painful. When I was at a 4 1/2 I asked for my epidural-I couldn't take it anymore! Don't know how people have natural child birth! They then broke my water and about 20 minutes later I was in bad pain again. I thought my epidural was not working. My mom was in there with me and Avery and my dad had just left to get a bite to eat. We thought we had time. I told my mom it hurt so bad, I felt major pressure and I thought I needed to push. Wasn't sure because I never really felt much of anything with my first labor. And nothing like the pressure. My mom called the nurse in and she checked me. She says to me, "Yup, your ready! Close your legs." Ummm, ok, that was not what I was expecting! My mom called Avery and he got in the room just as I started to push(I was telling my doctor, "you need to hurry, I need to push now!") 15 minutes later, our beautiful baby boy Kellan was born! Faster than all of us expected, including the nurses and doctor. I am thankful it was so much better than my 3 hrs of pushing when I had Koben. My mom and Avery were a great support. My dad got to stand outside of the room, and cried when he heard the baby. The nurses walking by thought it was pretty sweet :-) No complications, and we went home two days later. I always thought, how could I love another baby as much as I love Koben? But it's true, you just do. We couldn't be happier! He is the sweetest baby boy!

Koben has been doing pretty well with his little brother. He loves to hold and kiss him, especially eskimo kisses. When Kellan cries, he says "it's ok baby" pats him and kisses him. It is a huge adjustmant for him though. He is used to us being busy with activities and that has changed, especially since I am trying to get the hang of breastfeeding. He has tried to throw a couple of toys at Kellan and will try to take the nursing pillow when I am feeding him. We are also trying to teach him to give his brother gentle touches, sometimes difficult for a two year old. He is definately in his terrible two's at times. Lately he has been throwing stuff, hitting and dumping out food, and just generally getting into everything. Time-out has been our friend. His pediatrician just laughed when we told him of his behavior, and said it is perfectly normal, just some do more than others and to make sure he knows he can't act like that with time-out's and stuff, and ignore him during a tantrum. I know this is such a big change for him, and we are making sure to give him lot's of love and involve him as much as possible in helping and playing with the baby, and also giving him one-on-one time.

Koben had his 2 -year checkup yesterday. He weighs 28 lbs and is in the 75th percentile and 50th for height. The doctor and nurse were impressed with his development and vocabulary. He was given two shots and did really well, especially since the nurse gave him a popcicle afterwards. He also did not get upset this time when the doctor checked him, and even used the potty at the doctor's office. Can't believe he is two now!! And a big brother!

Well, we will be making our big move to California next Thursday the 1st. We found a 4bd house to rent in Sunnyvale, which is about 10-15 min from Avery's job. My parents will be driving down with us to help with unpacking and the kids. We are soooo excited and can't wait to get settled and exploring. We will miss our family and friends very much, but we are ready for our new adventure as a family of four! Hopefully you all come visit us!
