We have been telling Koben that pretty soon he will need to get rid of his binky because big boys don't use them, only babies. So we have been saying eventually he will give it to the binky fairy for her to give to other little boys and girls who need them (thank you Jo Frost Supernanny). I was putting Koben down for a napand he took his binky out and said, "I don't need this anymore. I wanna give it to the binky fairy." So I'm like, crap, I don't have all the stuff I wanted to decorate a big envelope and the mailbox and stuff. But I couldn't tell him no. Now mind you, Koben had a really nasty cold and I thought it was a horrible time to give it up b/c he was crabby. So I didn't expect anything, just went along with it. So I grabbed a white envelope and had him color it with markers, he put his binky in and we took it to the mailbox. He was very excited. Well, when I went to put him down for a nap again about 30 min, later, he was a snotty, crying mess. Nose running, coughing, "I don't wanna sleep without my binky! You take Kellans binky and give it to the binky fairy!" So, what did I do? Gave him his other binky. I felt so bad knowing he was sick and it comforted him, so I gave it to him. I told him he can't have his other one back, and when he was not sick anymore we were gonna give this one away too. He said "alright, I love you." Ahh I'm a sucker! I mean, I didn't want to do it then anyways while he was sick, but still...I know the big reason kids have their binkys is cuz us parents just give in. But I swear, when he is not sick we are gonna stick it out. It just has to be done. I will be prepared with my binky fairy "stuff" now! Then...potty training...
